1. FEATURE ARTICLE: FOUR “MUST READ” BOOKS
One of the benefits of being an airline pilot is that I get to travel the world. Whenever overseas, I would take the opportunity to buy books that are not available and those that are difficult to get in Malaysia. I’ve in my collection books from Japan, China, Taiwan, Argentina, UK, Australia and of course, US.
I’ve benefited immensely from these books and know that you too can only get better by reading them. So what I’ve decided to do is to buy the rights for those books and share them with you. Other than making it available for you, an additional good thing is that I have gone through each one personally so you know the books are of proven quality.
This is a list of the books that we’ve obtained the rights for (so far!):
1. “Think Lazy, Grow Rich” by John Ruck
I must admit that it was the title that attracted my attention. When I went through the book, I was pleasantly surprised to find out information that even I did not know of previously.
This book is full of financial tips, marvelous gems and business wisdom. A must read.
2. “What Rich People Know & Desperately Want to Keep a Secret” by Brian Sher
Brian Sher has spent 15 years discovering what the world’s richest and most successful people know. By studying the habits and principles that guide their approach to life and business, he has been able to identify the basics yet powerful secrets to success, and lets you know exactly how you can do it too.
This book is the first one of its kind to reveal these easy to follow money making secrets.
A must read.
3. “How to Make Money Out of Thin Air” by Brian Sher
The follow up book by Brian Sher. In this book, Brian reveals the strategies that successful people use to make money seemingly out of thin air - so you can own use those strategies too. I have applied the lessons from this book and can vouch that they work!
So this is another must read book.
4. “101 Really Important Things You Already Know but Keep Forgetting” by Ernie J. Zelinski
I first found out about Ernie from his ground breaking book The Joy of Not Working. Though I loved to work, I agree with many points that he raised in that book.
However, this book is even better! Ernie shares 101 really important things that we already know but keep forgetting. While the points cover all aspects of life, a few do cover financial matters as well. A gem and a must read.
These four books are available at the bookstores all around the country, including at MPH, Popular, Kinokuniya and Borders. Price starts at RM39.90, which is significantly cheaper compared to buying them in their original countries.
Alternatively, you can also order directly from us through our secure online site using your credit card or Maybank2U.
There are more books coming and I’ll keep you posted on their availability.

2. QUOTE OF THE MONTH
“There comes a time in everyone’s life when they realize they have to plan for their financial future. Those who realize this at an early age are well set for a life of stability and financial freedom.”

3. YOUR QUESTION ANSWERED
Q: I tried saving RM500 a month. However, I keep spending the money, often time even before month’s end. There are 1,001 reasons for this, including lending the money to others. Can you help?
A: You are right; there are 1,001 reasons to use the money but there are also 1,001 reasons to save and invest the money, which include your retirement, your children’s education, buying a new house, helping your parents, etc., etc.
By the way, stop lending money. You are not a money lender and it is not your job nor duty to lend money. Help in other ways, not by lending money.
I have not lent anything, particularly money, for the past twenty eight years.
